Kings Road and Calder Freeway Interchange Opened

The Calder Action Group Inc is very pleased to advise the wider community that the Kings Road and Calder Freeway Interchange now effectively completed and has come in under budget. Federal and State Government Members attended the formal opening on 24th January 2012. The details are set out in the Press Release as shown in the News/Press Clippings section of this website.

We are also delighted that the funding saved from this project is being applied immediately to a further safety project extending the Service Road running parallel to the inbound Calder lanes.  This road will service Oak Bank Road and Highland Road, eliminating two further hazardous entrances to the Freeway.

Improvements at the Sunshine Avenue Turnoff, as explained in two VicRoa leaflets on the Corresponance In section of this website are now possible after the Opening of the Kings Road Interchange and so progressively improving the safety of the out-bound section.

Much remains to be done to improve the Calder Park Drive intersection and by widening the bridges, to eliminate the 80 K/hr restrictions on this road. We will be working towards achieving the necessary priority for the funding and construction of these improvements.

2. The Calder Action Group is very pleased that an acceleration lane extension and better freeway entry from the Calder Park Drv/Calder Freeway to Bendigo northbound was completed in July 2009.

The CAG felt this was warranted and we wrote to Vic Roads previously stating our safety concerns with the flow of traffic from this point.

We are still pursing a longer and new deceleration lane at the Calder Park Drv/Calder Freeway interchange for the same reasons and our hopeful that Vic Roads will look at this request favourably in the near future.

We have also raised the issue with Vic Road to install variable speed signs along this stretch of the Calder Freeway. This will enable the speed to go up during off peak traffic times. This request has been declined due to high traffic volumes and lack of emergency stopping lanes.

The 80km speed limit will remain in place over this road section and operate at all times.

We will keep you posted on all of the above as we are notified.
